As a part of the celebration of the 150th Birth Anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore, the Bangla Club of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) organised a recitation and cultural programme at the university's permanent campus on September 21, 2011. The programme started with the national anthem. The Vice Chancellor (in charge) of IUB, Professor M Omar Rahman and co-coordinator of Bangla Club, Dr Akimun Rahman spoke on the occasion. The students performed several songs and recited poems of various themes such as love, nature and patriotism. A good number of students and members of the faculty and management attended the programme. The Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) was established in 1993. It established a second campus at Chittagong in 1999 and is the first private university, in Bangladesh to extend its teaching facilities to the port city of the country. The University logo represents the philosophy on which the University is founded: the best of both worlds. The Blue Leaf represents the western tradition, Saffron Leaf the eastern. The Flame in the middle represents the synthesis of the eastern and western traditions and also conveys the idea of purity.
