‘Another’ আর‘other এর ব্যবহার:
“another” এর আগে “an” ব্যবহার করা যায়না। বলা যায়না “an another man”। বলতে হয় “another man”। একইভাবে“another books” নয়; এটি “another book”।
“Other” শব্দটি অনেকের কাছেই বিরক্তিকর। কারণ এটিকে হয় adjective অথবা pronoun হিসেবে ব্যবহার করতে হয়। একসাথে দুই রুপেই সাজানো যায়না।
“Other” যখনadjective:
Adjective এর সাথে grammatical ‘s’ লাগানো যায় না (যেমন করে noun বা verb এর সাথে লাগানো যায়).কাজেই other যখন কোন noun এর সামনে বসে adjective হিসেবে ব্যবহৃত হয়, তখন others বলা যায়না। “অন্য বইগুলো” বুঝাতে “Others books” বলা ভুল। কারণ এখানে “other” একটিadjective।বলতে হবে “other books"। ঠিক একইভাবে বলা যাবেনা “others teachers”, “others friends” ইত্যাদি। বলতে হবে “other teachers”, “other friends”।
“Other” যখন pronoun:
Other এমন একটি অদ্ভুত pronoun যাকে plural করা যায়, এবং যার সাথে অন্য determiners (some, the) ইত্যাদিও ব্যবহার করা যায়। “আমার কাছে অন্যটি আছে” বুঝাতে বলতে হবে “I have the other”। বলা যাবেনা “I have other”। “আমার কাছে অন্যগুলো আছে” বুঝাতে বলতে হবে “I have the others”। অথবা পরিস্থিতি অনুযায়ী শুধু “I have others”।
