Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leaders and activists of Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology (RUET) unit vandalized the office of chief engineer on November 5, 2012 afternoon, demanding removal of the chief engineer Professor Sofi Uddin Ahmed.
Some 100 BCL activists and leaders of the university unit took part in the vandalism around 5:30pm. They damaged the furniture, windows and destroyed some important papers of the office.
They also threatened that they would go for tougher action if university Vice Chancellor Professor Sirajul Karim Chowdhury does not meet their demands by November 6, 2012.
Convener of RUET unit BCL Harun-or-Rashid alleged that there are irregularities in tender process and chief engineer is involved in it.
Moreover, BCL activists demanded removal of the chief engineer, as he did not give in to BCL pressure to accept the tenders of their designated people.
When contacted, Professor Ahmed said he knew nothing about why BCL men are demanding his dismissal.
RUET VC said that he will take action against those responsible for vandalism.
