Rajshahi, the Silk city and the holy land of saint Shah Makhdhum (R), one of the oldest city of Bangladesh is familiar by the name of "Education City". Rajshahi Mohila Polytechnic Institute (RMPI) is one of the new member of this "Education City". It was established in 2003 & started its academic activities from the 2005-’06 session with 152 students in four technologies.
Rajshahi Mohila Polytechnic Institute offers Diploma-in-Engineering Courses in various technologies, like Architecture & Interior Design, Computer, Electromedical and Electronics. All diploma programs are four years (8 semester) of duration.
LOCATION
The Institute is located in its own campus at Nawdapara bypass road (in between mango point & new bus terminal), about seven kilometers from the heart of the Rajshahi city (towards north). It, covers an area of about 2 acres of land.
TECHNICAL EDUCATION SIGNIFICANCE:
21st century the age of globalization ushers the beginning of a new millennium. It is a turning point in the history of mankind. In 20th century science and technology could reach to a tiny portion of world population.
But 21st century has started its journey with a promise to reach the blessings of science and technology to every human being on the Earth. In such a perspective technical education has become most significant and new horizon of studies. In Offices, Industries, Residence, Hospitals everywhere technically skilled people are the most essential part. Diploma-in-Engineering graduates, now a days, are playing vital role in various government, semi-government, autonomous and private organizations. To cope with the demand of the age, to achieve the millennium development goals (MDGs) the Government has given much emphasis on technical education. For this purpose, like other technical educational institutions, Rajshahi Mohila Polytechnic Institute (RMPI) has been working relentlessly. RMPI is committed to graduate its pupils as internationally standard. The Diploma-in-Engineering graduates have been working in Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Middle east, Europe and America, almost every part of the world.
At Present the percentage of technical student enrollment is about 3.45%. We have to enhance this ratio up to 20% by 2015. So we have no alternate other than the development of technical education to run with the fast moving world.
OPARATION
Rajshahi Mohila Polytechnic Institute along with other Government Polytechnic & Monotechnic Institutes is under Ministry of Education through Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), while the academic program controlled by the Bangladesh Technical Education Board (BTEB).

4-Years Diploma-in-Engineering courses:

The prerequisite for admission in first year first semester class is Secondary School Certificate (SSC) or its equivalent with at least GPA-3 marks in average and a minimum of GP-3 in mathematics. Only female Students are eligible for admission.
Short Courses
In addition to Diploma-in-Engineering course, the Institute is going to introduce BTEB affiliated "Basic-Trade Course" in Television & Radio servicing, Computer operation, School, College & Madrasah level teachers' computer training program etc. Official order for conducting these courses are under process.
STAFF MEMBERSThe Institute has a good number of qualified teachers' and other technical & administrative staff. At present there are 20 teachers including Chief Instructors/Departmental Heads, Instructor, Junior Instructors in Architecture & Interior Design, Computer, Electromedical, Electronics and Related subjects. Sufficient technical staff (supporting staff for conducting practical classes in workshops and laboratories) and administrative staffs (Registrar, Librarian, Doctor) are working in the Institute. Total 45 personnel’s are now involved with this institute to run the Academic & Administrative jobs smoothly

FACILITIES
The main campus including one 4storied Administrative building, two 3 storied large workshop buildings now accommodating the class rooms, workshops & laboratories and one 5 storied building accommodating offices, library, Labs & class rooms with a Multipurpose common room & a Canteen.
Hostels
At present there is one 4-storied girls hostel in the Institute which can accommodate nearly 100 girls.
Staff Residence
There are some resident facilities including Principals Quarter, Hostel Supers Quarter and a Staff Quarter (for 3rd & 4th class employees) in this institute.
Playground
The Institute owns a playground of 11500 sqf land covered by four buildings, having facilities for football & cricket (short format) & volleyball, badminton and other outdoor games.
Workshops and LaboratoriesThe spacious workshops and laboratories equipped with modern machines and instruments provide excellent opportunity for the training of students commensurate with practices in industries. Requisite amount of money is provided by the Government every year for developments and to keep the workshops at the update level.
Medical Center
The Institute has a Medical Center under Electromedical Technology with a Medial Officer (MBBS). The Center provides free treatment and first-aid medicine to students, teachers and staffs.
LIBRARY
A library of well selected and up-to-date text & reference books maintained in the Institute. Current trade, industrial and educational journals are also available for use by students, staff and teachers. The library is kept open beyond institute hours to enable the students to study according to their conveniences. Current collection of this library is near about 1500 volumes.
IT Centre
There is an IT Centre to cope with the modern information and communication technologies, email, internet & latest ICT facilities including its own website. Recently this center got the connection of BTCL fiber optic line.
Audio-Visual Lab
The Institute has an Audio-Visual lab equipped with modern audio-visual aids such as Multimedia Projector, Over Head Projector, movie camera, tape-recorders, record-players, etc, for supplementing class room instructions.
Students Common Room
The Institute maintains a multi-purpose room as common room where facilities for reading newspapers magazines and playing indoor games are available. Short version program’s are organized here on various occasions.
Study TourThe Institute arranges necessary study tour and industrial visit programs for students, staff and teachers time to time.
Transportation Facilities
STIPENDS
At present there is a provision offering stipends to 65% of the enrolled students of the Institute with a lump grant of Tk. 905/- per semester per student. The stipends for the students other than 1 st semester are awarded on the basis of their results in the final examination of the preceding semesters, Merit, good conduct, satisfactory progress and regular attendance in the corresponding semester are considered as criteria for enlistment for award of stipend. Students failing in any subjects in their final examination of the preceding semester are not entitled to stipends for the semester. First year first semester students are awarded stipends on the basis of the result of their SSC or equivalent examinations.
Scope For Higher EducationThe door of higher education is open now several way for the Diploma-in-Engineering graduates. 1) They can get admitted into Dhaka University of engineering and technology (DUET) in their respective technology. 2) They can also complete their B.Sc Engineering in private universities. 3) Besides, the Diploma-in-Engineering graduates have opportunity for admission in degree pass course of the National University, Bangladesh. 4) Technical Teacher Training College (TTTC) provides in-service and pre-service 1-year Diploma-in-Technical Education and 2-years B.Sc in Technical Education. 5) Islamic University of Technology (IUT) also offer B.Sc in Tech. Education courses. 6) They can also completed the AMIE courses equivalent to B.Sc. Engineering.
Employment Opportunities
In the rapidly changing technological trends world over, the demands for Diploma-in-Engineering graduates i.e. mid level technical manpower are increasing continuously. As such, the Diploma-in-Engineering graduates are in high demand home and abroad. However, in Bangladesh, the Diploma-in-Engineering graduates are now being employed in various government, semi-government, autonomous and private organizations including various NGO's as Sub-Assistant Engineers or in equivalent positions. In Technical Education system fresh graduates are employed in the post of junior Instructor in Polytechnic Institutes, Technical School & Colleges. Diploma engineers started their job in the position of sub-assistant Engineer / Junior Instructor in Govt. Organizations, at present enjoy class-ii gazetted status. They have also opportunity for vertical mobility in their positions. They can move up to the position of Chief Engineer / Chief Executive Officer.
